It’s been one of those days. The kind where you wake up late. Get to work your boss is on your case, co-workers on your nerves, you’ve fallen behind, you get stuck in traffic on the way home, your house is upside down, and then you stomp your little toe and it’s about to send you over the edge.
Anger is rising and you can feel that the next person that says or does anything is going to get it. When you finally snap, you feel horrible and wonder how you let yourself get to this point again. Where can you go when your struggle with anger feels like a daily struggle maybe even hourly occurrence? Where do you turn? God’s Word! The word is a sword it’s how you fight back to keep your composure.
Scripture points us to the danger and foolishness of anger, and why we should steer clear of it but it also directs us with scriptures about peace, perseverance and steadfastness. It strengthens us, builds our faith in holding on tongue. Not all anger is bad. Jesus got angry, but angry for the right reasons: the things that dishonored God and people taking advantage of others.
He was never angry because people tried to take advantage of him. Be reminded he died for sins he did not commit. In place of those who persecuted him. It was our sins upon his shoulders. We must arm ourselves likewise to suffer and overcome as he did. Let these verses lead you to healing, peace, and slow to anger.
Psalm 86:15 "But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness."
Proverbs 14:29 "Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding, but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly."
Proverbs 15:1 "A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger."
Colossians 3:15 "And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful."
