Hebrews 12:29
“For our God is a consuming fire.”
The word “consuming” mean's to destroy or annihilate. In scripture, fire can be used as a form of judgment but it is also used in purification or refining. What things would God want to consume or burn away?
One of the biggest enemies God is seeking to devour in your life is sin. The biggest enemy in your life is not Satan, it is sin. The only thing that can hender or destroy the work and purpose of God in your life is sin. As powerful as Satan may be, he is no match for those who have chosen to follow Christ with their whole heart.
(Luke 10:19) Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. We have been given power over all the power of the enemy.
However, when sin invades your heart it can wreak havoc on God’s purpose for your life. Because God loves you and has a great plan for you, what may seem like an attack could very well be chastening, the Lord showing up any area of sin in your life so he can remove it. When we ask the Lord to come in and purify us, cleanse us make us more like him. The consuming fire that he is goes into action burning away everything thing that doesn't reflect who Christ is.
1 John 1:7-9: “But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Ask to be consumed today, purified, refined, cleansed and polished. He is a consuming fire.
